Waxahatchee Ridge Farm is located in Southeast Shelby County, Alabama, which is 35 miles south of Birmingham, 12 miles north of the Chilton – Shelby county lines. The farm though recently named, has been in our family for several decades. There have been various farm operations such as a dairy in the 1950s in which was a supplier for Foremost Dairies to a small Polled Hereford farm. As time passed the farm became smaller due to urban development. Now as we mend some old fences that are still standing from that peaceful past, we remember the stories that has been shared by our loved ones about this wonderful place, we are thankful for our history and heritage and most of all we thank our Lord and savior Jesus Christ for providing the means for our family to be able to keep this farm .
We purchased our first goats from a breeder in Chilton Co. We bought two wethers and a little doe which were all percentage boers. Our daughter, Tiffany began showing goats in 4-H, she showed very well the first year and we all quickly became very enthusiastic about goats. We know own 20 goats consisting of 100% Full Blood Boars and Full South African Boars. As our knowledge of being a goat producer continues to grow, our goal is to improve our herd by proper management and breeding.
We are focused on raising top quality animals for our herd and also to provide top quality animals for others interested in the goat industry. As the goat industry in Alabama continues to grow, the need for producers is increasing. Our role as goat producers should be focused on not only to produce top quality show animals but also to produce a better meat goat that will provide a constant supply for the industry.
